Applications:

  • Will be done online, all fields must be filled in correctly with proper information. Accurate information is required to participate.
  • Applicants must be between the ages of 6 and 19 years by the audition date to be eligible.
  • No late, mailed or hand delivered entries will be accepted. Online registrations only.
  • All candidates who are registered at, and actively taking part in regular classes at a studio whose Studio Owner is a member of WRDAA (1987) are eligible to participate.

Fees:

  • Online payments through Paypal are the only accepted payments.
  • This program does not provide refunds for any reason.

Attire:

  • All female participants must wear a one-piece black bodysuit with full footed tights. Ballet pink tights are to be worn for ALL disciplines - tap, jazz and ballet. Convertible tights are acceptable so long as they are over the foot inside the shoe. Dancers aged 13 years and older have the option to wear black dance shorts for the jazz and tap portion of the audition. All dancers must be wearing suitable footwear for each discipline they audition. No foot undies or bare feet. Hair in a slicked back bun.
  • All male participants must wear a full length plain white T-shirt and either black dance pants, full length tights or reasonably fitted sport shorts. No sweat pants.
  • No participants may have any extra attire i.e. visible bras or half tops, belts, socks, t-shirts (females), logos on clothing, jewellery or hair accessories.

Full Standing Rules and Regulations:

*Rules are subject to change based on the needs of the event as voted on by the WRDAA Membership. Should a discrepancy arise between the online rules posted/distributed and the WRDAA minutes, the committee will follow the rules as stated in the most recent minutes.
Scholarships will be awarded in Tap, Jazz, Ballet and Overall in multiple age categories. Final age divisions will be determined based on registrations received so that class sizes can be kept manageable for all age categories.
  • Adjudicators who are independent dance teachers and professionals will conduct all of the auditions. They will not be affiliated with the WRDAA.
  • Please remember that applicants must arrive 30 minutes prior to their audition time. No late dancers will be admitted into the audition, even if the audition class has not yet begun.
  • Communication for this event will be via email, so please be sure to look for updates. It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure they have all updated schedules for the event.

Eligible Candidates

  • All candidates who are registered at, and actively taking part in regular classes at a studio whose Studio Owner is a member of the Wild Rose Dance Arts Association (1987) (hereinafter known as the WRDAA). These are verified prior to the event.
  • Candidates must be at least 6 years old the day of the audition and under 19 years by the audition date.

Ineligible Candidates

  • Any inactive, active or lifetime member of the WRDAA.
  • The fees must be paid through Paypal at time of registration. Any declined transactions are not processed and are not registered.
  • WRDAA reserves the right to refuse any applications that do not comply with the rules set out in this document.

Deadline for Application

  • All applications must be filled out correctly online through our website.
  • Once registration is closed, no late entries will be accepted. No exceptions will be made.

Cost Of Entries

  • Active Studios - Fees are subject to change each year. Example: 2017 fees were $20.00 per entry
  • Inactive Studios - Fees are subject to change each year. Example: 2017 fees were $30.00 per entry.
  • All monies received will go to covering the cost of running the auditions and funding the scholarships given.

Refund Policy

  • This program does not provide refunds for any reason. We appreciate your support for this event.

Female Attire

* When dressing for an audition please think of dance exam attire. We want neat and tidy candidates.
  • All female candidates must wear a one piece black bodysuit with full footed tights. Convertible tights are acceptable so long as they are over the foot inside the shoe.
  • Ballet pink tights are to be worn for ALL disciplines, tap, jazz and ballet. Dancers aged 13 years and older have the option to wear black dance shorts for the jazz and tap portion of the audition.

Male Attire

  • All male candidates must be dressed in a plain (no logos) full length, white t-shirt.
  • Black dress pants, or dance pants, or black tights or reasonably fitted black sport shorts.
  • Black socks.
  • Black Ballet Slippers, Black Jazz Shoes, Black Tap Shoes.
  • No foot thongs, turning shoes or bare feet.
  • Longer length hair must be neatly secured.

Adjudicators

  • The adjudicators for the scholarship auditions will consist of independent dance professionals and teachers. These adjudicators are not directly affiliated with WRDAA.
  • Scholarship audition class procedure will include:
    • a. A combination of steps being taught in the appropriate discipline.
    • b. All previously unseen.
    • c. Provide independent scoring.
    • d. If there is an A and B audition class, adjudicators are instructed to teach the same class and combination.
    • e. Candidates do not need to prepare anything beforehand.

Age Breakdown

  • In order to keep classes to a manageable size, there will be multiple age categories. These will be adjusted as enrollment allows.
    • a. For example : 6 – 8 years, 9 - 10 years 11 – 12 years, 13 – 14 years, 15 – 18 years.
    • b. Age categories could change from year to year as enrollment in each age category fluctuates.

Audition Procedure

  • All audition classes are 30 min to 45 min in length. This is determined by age and enrollment numbers.
  • Callback classes are 10 minutes and candidates perform the same routine taught in the audition class.

  • Call Back System:
    • a. Call back classes will consist of approximately 50% or less of the original audition class.
    • b. This call back system allows candidates to experience a professional audition process.

    Awarding Callbacks:
    • a. Adjudicators select candidates from audition class.
    • b. Candidates are sorted for callbacks.
    • c. Selected candidates participate in callbacks.
    • d. Adjudicators assign individual placements.
    • e. Scoring from Adjudicators is totalled.
    • f. Totals are used to assign awards.

Audition Day Expectations

  • Dancers must be checked in no later than 30 minutes prior to their stated audition time.
  • All participants are notified by emails provided on the application form.
  • All WRDAA members are also provided with information at the same time as participants.
  • No late arrivals will be permitted to enter the audition room.
  • Candidates are considered late if arrival is less than 30 min prior to audition class
  • Late candidates are not guaranteed entry even if the audition class has not yet begun
  • The Auditions reserves the right to run up to 30 min early.
  • All applicants will wear a number to identify themselves.
  • Dancers must know their full name, number and discipline(s) registered for when they arrive for check in.
  • These numbers will be stated on the audition timetable emailed out ahead of time.
  • A scholarship committee member will be present in the audition room to ensure lines are changed regularly and auditions run on time.
  • There will be no parents allowed in the audition building. Children of parents who enter the building may disqualified from auditioning.
  • Parents and Candidates are invited to check out our Facebook page for updates throughout the event.
  • Candidates must comply with general audition etiquette such as no talking or cheering. A scholarship committee member will be present and will remove any dancer not conducting themselves appropriately.
  • Parents and Candidates agree to abide by a 24 hour rule after the event. All concerns comments and requests must be held for 24 hours before contacting the committee. The committee will not return communication for a minimum 24 hours after the event.

Award and Scholarship Eligibility

  • All registered candidates are eligible for all awards for all discipline(s) they are registered in
  • Candidates can only win one cash scholarship award per year (ie. can only win one placement). Candidates may be eligible for an additional donor scholarship, based on the criteria outlined by the donor organization.

Awarding of the Monies

  • Audition participants will be awarded points based on a combination of dance ability, performance, effort, attitude, and grooming.
  • A candidate who places in more than one category will be chosen for the scholarship of highest placement.
    • a. Example: Suzie is called back for both jazz and tap. She scored higher for tap and lower for jazz. Suzie would be awarded a tap scholarship.
  • The age groupings will not be adjudicated against one another.
  • Should the WRDAA receive additional scholarships/awards/gift certificates etc to hand out, criteria will be stated by the donor organization.
  • Adjudicators may also select Potential Awards that do not require a callback.

Results

  • Results will be distributed following the event by email.
  • Results are presented in order of placement.
  • This is an audition process. Individual feedback will not be provided.
  • Cheques will be ready for disbursement upon results being verified by the Winter Scholarship Committee.
  • Award packages are given to WRDAA members to distribute to candidates from their studios.
  • Packages are not mailed out. WRDAA studio representatives can pick up award packages at the end of the audition day or at the next WRDAA meeting.
  • Winners will be recognized at the Annual WRDAA competition in the spring of the same year.
